SME Systems Engineer (AWS)

Location: Onsite in Tysons Corner, Virginia, or Warrenton, Virginia, United States

Salary: $49,996.80–$290,004.00 per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure across networking, compute, storage, operating systems, middleware, databases, and applications.
• Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, and AWS CDK.
• Deploy, configure, and administer containerized applications using Kubernetes, EKS, Docker Swarm, or similar platforms.
• Support Linux-based systems and platforms, including monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and hardening.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, analysts, and government stakeholders to build, monitor, debug, and support complex data-processing capabilities.
• Improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency while maintaining technical documentation and training materials.

Requirements

• US citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in cloud, platform, or systems engineering.
• Extensive experience with enterprise infrastructure, hybrid and multi-cloud environments, Linux administration, cloud networking, identity, security, and cost optimization.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, web services, APIs, middleware, event-driven messaging, Python, Bash, PowerShell, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, monitoring, incident response, systems hardening, and architecture or migration documentation.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of machine-learning platforms such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or SageMaker.
• Familiarity with Hadoop, Databricks, Snowflake, or Google BigQuery.
• Experience with ITIL, agile methodologies, observability, Zero Trust architectures, or AI/ML platforms.
• AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification or equivalent.
