Systems Adminstrator (DataOps)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland; onsite/remote at NCBI

Salary: $115,000–$150,000 per year, commensurate with experience and location.

What you will do

• Develop and continuously improve an enterprise-wide DataOps platform.
• Develop and maintain common tools and libraries for platform users.
• Evaluate new technologies and engineering practices for data-intensive applications.
• Support NCBI developers in adopting the platform and modern cloud-based data processing infrastructure.
• Provide automated solutions and compliance pipelines for federal application security requirements.
• Contribute to agile development and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Strong coding skills in at least one programming language, such as Python or C++.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerization.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or equivalent cloud services.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, or equivalent messaging technologies.
• Experience with Apache Airflow or an equivalent workflow platform.
• Experience with data processing applications, modern cloud-based data processing infrastructure, Linux command-line tools, and a B.S. in a STEM field or equivalent systems engineering experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Anthos, Docker, GitOps, ArgoCD, Terraform, and CI/CD or artifact-management tools.
• Experience with observability, logging, secret-management, and data-transfer tools.
• Experience with Apache Pulsar, RabbitMQ, Amazon Kinesis, Apache Spark Streaming, or related streaming technologies.
• Knowledge of best-practice coding and architecture patterns.
• Experience working in an agile environment.
