Software Engineering Manager (Java, AWS, Search)

What you will do

• Lead key business initiatives and contribute to long-term service strategy.
• Design, develop, and operate scalable, distributed, data-intensive microservices for the search platform.
• Drive resiliency, reliability, engineering efficiency, and customer-centric software delivery.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Lead, hire, coach, and mentor engineering teams and support career development.
• Manage uncertainty and promote engineering excellence across geographically distributed teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 12–16 years of experience designing and developing cloud-scale, highly available server applications and services.
• Experience managing and mentoring development teams, including cross-functional engineering talent from software engineers to architects.
• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and data management.
• Exceptional proficiency in Java or a similar programming language, plus expertise with AWS and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience building resilient distributed cloud data systems, hiring engineering talent, and setting up teams for success.

Nice to have

• Hands-on information retrieval experience with Lucene, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Exposure to vector databases and ML infrastructure.
• Experience monitoring and improving reliability in complex systems at scale.
• Awareness of security and compliance challenges in cloud products or platforms.
