Engineering Manager- Payments

hirify.global builds infrastructure for cross-border payment systems for institutions, processing billions of dollars in monthly transaction volume and operating with EU licenses.

What you will do

• Stand up and lead a new Payments pod of approximately 8–15 engineers and QA, including a Tech Lead.
• Own the launch and reliability of new payment corridors, including partner integrations, rails, cut-offs, FX, fees, returns, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Turn EU regulatory obligations into operational systems for safeguarding customer funds, transaction monitoring, and auditable control evidence.
• Own payment initiation, quoting, tracking, statuses, webhooks, returns, recalls, reporting, and dashboard experiences across API and GUI.
• Set engineering standards for idempotency, exactly-once ledger effects, backward-compatible releases, incident response, and tested rollbacks.
• Hire, develop, and performance-manage the team while remaining hands-on with design, coding, production debugging, and on-call operations.

Requirements

• At least 2 years managing a full engineering team of 5 or more, with a Tech Lead or senior individual contributor reporting directly.
• Strong backend engineering background with the ability to design APIs, model schemas, and write idiomatic, tested, runnable code.
• Production experience building or operating payment orchestration, ledgers, settlement, or reconciliation systems.
• Experience integrating banking, payment, or FX partners and handling outages, credential changes, sandbox-to-production differences, and degraded operation.
• Deep understanding of distributed-systems correctness for money movement, including idempotency, exactly-once effects, concurrency, and reconciliation.
• Experience with compliance, risk, or regulators, high-risk production migrations, incident command, hiring, and performance management.

Nice to have

• Cross-border payments experience involving FX, correspondent or local rails, SWIFT, SEPA, or local clearing schemes.
• Regulated EU or US fintech experience, including safeguarding or transaction-monitoring systems.
• Multi-partner orchestration, redundant routing, partner health scoring, and failover.
• Experience shipping customer-facing payment features across API and UI.
• Stablecoin or digital-asset settlement experience alongside fiat payments.
