Environmental Health & Safety Manager (Electric Vehicles)

Location: United States, ideally Dallas, Houston, New Jersey, or Los Angeles. Travel to operating sites is required, including occasional short-notice travel after significant incidents.

What you will do

• Own DOT and FMCSA compliance across operating authorities and states, including driver qualification, Hours of Service, ELD, drug and alcohol testing, Clearinghouse obligations, CSA/SMS performance, and vehicle records.
• Design and run driver safety, onboarding, ELDT, professional development, telematics, camera, and coaching programs.
• Lead accident reviews, incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, post-accident testing decisions, and DOT-recordable determinations.
• Manage workers' compensation and liability claims with insurers and legal partners, including return-to-work coordination.
• Build the safety management system, policies, SOPs, reporting channels, dashboards, and field training program.
• Advise executive leadership on safety risks and scale the EH&S function, including its tools, structure, and headcount.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental science, transportation, logistics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of progressive EH&S, safety, or compliance experience, including at least 3 years in trucking, fleet, or another DOT-regulated transportation environment.
• Applied knowledge of FMCSR requirements under 49 CFR Parts 40, 382, 383, 387, and 390–399.
• Experience managing CSA/SMS performance and the DataQs process.
• Hands-on experience with ELD, telematics, and driver coaching platforms such as Samsara, Motive, Lytx, Netradyne, or Geotab.
• Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards and recordkeeping.

Nice to have

• Experience with battery-electric commercial vehicles, high-voltage systems, or EV charging infrastructure.
• Multi-state environmental compliance and hazardous waste generator experience.
• Experience with autonomous or automated vehicle technology programs.
• Class A CDL or substantial experience working directly with CDL drivers.
• Experience building an EH&S function from the ground up and knowledge of hazmat requirements under 49 CFR Parts 171–180.
