Coded Welder

Location: Waterval Smelter, Rustenburg, South Africa; onsite at the Converter Plant

What you will do

• Execute general welding, maintenance, and steelwork repairs.
• Operate TIG, MIG, CO2, flux core, shielded metal arc, and gas tungsten arc welding processes, as well as plasma and arc-air cutting equipment.
• Perform coded fillet and groove welds, weld in multiple positions, and conduct destructive testing on welded specimens.
• Use cutting, forming, measuring, fastening, and power tools safely and maintain welding equipment.
• Complete planned maintenance schedules, work orders, job cards, shift reports, and material requisitions.
• Supervise allocated team members, report operational risks and defects, and support improvement projects.

Requirements

• Welder Trade Certificate.
• Certified competence as a Coded Welder and completion of area-specific procedure training.
• At least 2 years of welding experience.
• Strong experience with MIG, TIG, and arc welding of carbon steel and stainless steel.
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings and welding symbols, including 1G, 2G, and 6G pipe positions.
• Knowledge of weld preparation, preheating requirements, and welding consumables.
