Senior Engineering Manager - AI Geospatial Assistant Team (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid work with 3 days per week in the San Francisco office

Salary: $182,900–$228,600 USD annual base salary, plus potential bonus and equity incentives

What you will do

• Lead a high-velocity engineering team building an AI Geospatial Assistant for natural-language exploration of satellite imagery.
• Hire the founding squad, design onboarding, and establish a culture of ownership, accountability, mentorship, and psychological safety.
• Design team operating practices, including sprint cadences, RFC processes, automated testing, and evaluation-led development.
• Collaborate with AI researchers to turn research prototypes and models into dependable, production-ready systems.
• Partner with Product and Design on technical roadmaps, scope management, graduation criteria, and early risk identification.
• Focus engineering delivery on forensics and daily change-detection use cases for researchers, journalists, governments, and NGOs.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant experience, including 4+ years leading software engineering teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience hiring and leading founding engineering teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Hands-on, AI-native experience writing production code with AI tools and shaping AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Experience leading AI engineering teams in elevating research prototypes into production-grade applications.
• Strong technical breadth across AI research, frontend engineering, architecture, team operations, conflict management, and pragmatic execution.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLM observability and monitoring tools such as LangSmith, Arize, or similar platforms.
• Experience with geospatial data, satellite imagery, or hirify.globalary-scale analytics.
• Public leadership experience with executive and external stakeholder communication.
