Equipment Operator (Heavy Equipment)

Location: Leesburg, Virginia, with projects in Staunton, Virginia and the Northern Virginia/DC area. Onsite work at construction sites is required.

Salary: $27.00–$40.00 per hour, excluding potential incentive pay and benefits.

What you will do

• Operate excavators, dozers, and loaders on highway, bridge, and utility projects.
• Support pipe and utility crews, including working safely inside trench boxes.
• Move and place construction materials.
• Inspect fluids before starting equipment and perform routine lubrication, fueling, and cleaning.
• Interpret ground markings, hand signals, and grade stakes while following supervisor instructions.
• Assist construction crews with other duties when equipment operation is not required.

Requirements

• At least five years of related experience and/or training, with experience appropriate to the project requirements.
• Certification or approval from the Safety Department or designation as a competent person.
• Successful completion of a practical test.
• Ability to safely climb into and out of heavy equipment and operate hand, arm, leg, and foot controls throughout the workday.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 40 pounds.
