HDD Operator

Location: Customer premises and construction job sites across the U.S.; weekly overnight, out-of-area, and extended travel may be required.

What you will do

• Transport heavy HDD equipment between job sites and operate HDD units throughout utility construction projects.
• Mix drilling fluids and apply proper procedures for HDD drilling operations.
• Inspect, maintain, organize, and safeguard HDD equipment, tools, and materials.
• Locate underground utilities using hand-digging tools before work begins and follow trenching and excavation requirements.
• Complete job documentation and support pre-job and post-job Job Hazard Analysis meetings.
• Provide on-the-job training to apprentices and respond to emergency utility repair or storm recovery work.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience operating HDD units.
• At least 1 year of experience as a boring crew foreman.
• Valid CDL-A license with a clear driving record.
• Strong equipment operating skills and knowledge of HDD drilling fluid products and mixing procedures.
• Ability to learn HDD locating equipment and read basic prints and drawings.
• High school diploma or GED, physical stamina, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and ability to work on uneven terrain in adverse field conditions.
