Landfill Technician (Heavy Equipment)

Location: Jackson, TN, USA; onsite work at a landfill

What you will do

• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, compact equipment, light service equipment, and trucks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, tires, and undercarriages.
• Service diesel and gasoline equipment including compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders.
• Interpret equipment condition reports and repair orders, communicate with supervisors and operators, and recommend preventive techniques.
• Document parts usage, repair times, consumables, fuel and oil usage in work orders and fleet management software.
• Perform engine overhauls and follow all safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience as a heavy equipment technician.
• Advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components.
• At least 1 year of experience applying OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and Fire Protection regulations.
• Mechanical trade school certificate or degree.
• Electrical diagnostics certificate and applicable ASE certifications.
• Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
