Fleet Road Mechanic

Location: Field environment with regular travel to job sites and extended outdoor workdays; occasional short-notice site visits are required.

What you will do

• Maintain cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractor-trailers, and other fleet vehicles at field sites.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes, tune-ups, inspections, and functional testing.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and diesel issues using visual inspections and computer diagnostic equipment.
• Repair or replace components such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical systems.
• Plan repair schedules, prioritize operational needs, coordinate with the Fleet Manager, and order required parts.
• Conduct test drives and site inspections to confirm safe and proper vehicle operation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completed vocational or technical training, or an apprenticeship, in auto repair or a related field.
• At least three years of experience as a mechanic working with heavy equipment.
• Ability to travel regularly to field sites and work overtime, shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to work in inclement weather and physically demanding conditions, including lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to read and write complex documents in English.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with personal computers and email.
• Knowledge of United Utility processes, procedures, technical manuals, and client requirements.
