Maintenance Fitter (Medical Device Manufacturing)

Location: Ballina, Ireland; onsite role in the Operations department.

What you will do

• Perform mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on facility, utility, and production equipment.
• Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime.
• Execute preventive maintenance programs and maintain accurate equipment records.
• Support Engineering and Production with equipment reliability, uptime, performance, and process optimization.
• Assist with equipment design, upgrades, installation, commissioning, and qualification.
• Apply Lean, PDCA, and Six Sigma tools while ensuring regulatory and safety compliance.

Requirements

• FÁS Mechanical time-served Apprenticeship with Junior and Senior Trades and QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Mechanical, or an equivalent nationally recognized qualification.
• 4–5+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in regulated manufacturing such as medical devices or pharmaceuticals.
• Multi-skilled experience with mechanical, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems.
• Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, drives, indexing systems, pumps, flow control, HVAC, humidity control, compressed air, chillers, boilers, or cleanroom utilities.
• Experience with maintenance documentation, MS Office, computer-based maintenance tools, and structured problem-solving.
• Strong communication, analytical problem-solving, teamwork, and technical coordination skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with laser cutting and printing, belt drives, cam-driven machines, punch presses, ultrasonic punching and cutting, jig and fixture design, and heat sealing.
• Experience leading technical activities or supporting continuous improvement projects.
