Sr. Scientist

Location: On-site in Cortland, New York, USA; travel under 5% overnight within the USA.

Annual salary: $100,000–$110,000, plus eligibility for bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Lead projects developing, validating, refining, and executing analytical methods for trace-level metals, extractables, leachables, organic compounds, and other contaminants.
• Characterize the chemical composition, morphology, porosity, surface properties, thermal behavior, viscoelastic properties, and performance of filtration and separation components.
• Act as a subject matter expert and technical leader for cross-functional, multidisciplinary projects.
• Coordinate test planning, laboratory scheduling, method readiness, preventive maintenance, and vendor interactions.
• Document experimental methods, data, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations in laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and project summaries.
• Maintain laboratory safety, quality, data integrity, and compliance standards.

Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience developing, validating, and executing spectrometric, spectroscopic, and chromatographic methods for chemical or materials characterization.
• Strong data analysis, documentation, technical writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently within established processes and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to work safely in a chemistry laboratory, including handling chemicals and operating analytical instrumentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-end filtration evaluation, characterization, or development.
• Experience with LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, ion chromatography, GPC, UV-VIS, Raman, or IR spectroscopy.
• Experience with DSC, DMA, rheometry, porosimetry, surface energy analysis, SEM-EDXS, optical microscopy, or light scattering.
