Category Buyer in General Procurement

Location: Herndon Area, Virginia, United States. Travel required: 15% domestic and international.

What you will do

• Develop regional market strategies, conduct supplier research, and identify new vendors for assigned indirect procurement categories.
• Lead the full sourcing lifecycle, including tendering, complex negotiations, contract implementation, and supplier performance management.
• Manage procurement portfolios and calls for tender with aggregate contract values of $10 million to $20 million.
• Drive compliance with hirify.global General Procurement processes, legal requirements, ethical standards, and savings targets.
• Lead cross-functional procurement projects, communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and resolve operational or contractual blockages.
• Coach less experienced team members and support procurement reporting through standard systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least seven years of experience in procurement or related functions, with increasing responsibility and accountability.
• Advanced procurement, negotiation, business case analysis, and total cost of ownership skills.
• Strong project management, analytical, communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution capabilities.
• Proficiency with procurement software such as Coupa, SAP Ariba, or Oracle, plus Google Workspace.
• Fluent written and verbal English and current US work authorization are required.

Nice to have

• French, German, and/or Spanish fluency.
• Project management or purchasing certifications such as PMP or CPP.
• Experience working in a complex international matrix organization.
