Field Engineer (Field Engineering)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri, United States; must be located in or willing to relocate to the Kansas City area. Remote work with daily client visits within the Kansas City area, plus local and regional travel.

What you will do

• Conduct safety and non-safety certification inspections, audits, and field evaluations for customer products and facilities.
• Analyze examination and test results against UL requirements and determine whether variations affect continued use of the UL Mark.
• Review manufacturers’ production, inspection, shipping, and quality records, including the accuracy and calibration of measuring equipment.
• Evaluate corrective-action options and investigate misuse of the UL Mark.
• Communicate with manufacturers, customers, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and other stakeholders about procedures, test methods, and results.
• Use instruments such as micrometers, voltmeters, and ammeters; document findings, calculations, schedules, and expenses.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent technical certification in engineering, engineering technology, industrial or manufacturing technology, or physics.
• General electronics knowledge, strong mechanical and technical aptitude, and the ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and client-interfacing skills, including conflict-resolution abilities.
• Ability to work at heights and perform daily client visits in the Kansas City area.
• Ability to travel locally and regionally and work remotely; the role does not generally report to a specific UL office.

Nice to have

• Experience in field engineering, compliance, or quality engineering.
• Experience with UL Standards, 508A, or industrial control panels.
• ASQ certification.
• Lightning protection experience.
