Machinist IV (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States; 1st shift, 6:00am–2:30pm

What you will do

• Set up and operate multiple manual and CNC machines to produce precision production hardware.
• Perform gear shaping, hobbing, skiving, milling, turning, drilling, grinding, honing, and related machining operations.
• Plan machining sequences, improve tooling, perform setups, changeovers, deburring, and machine-offset updates.
• Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments, comparator charts, CMM reports, GD&T blueprints, micrometers, and calipers.
• Troubleshoot machine, tooling, NC, and CNC issues in collaboration with programming and engineering teams.
• Improve cycle times and workflow, mentor junior operators, and lead 5S/Kaizen initiatives.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of shaping machining experience, including Gleason shapers, hobbing, or gear-cutting machines.
• Complete understanding of gear making, shaping, and skiving, including internal and external gears and splines.
• Ability to measure gear ID/OD and read CMM reports containing gear measurements.
• Proficiency with complex GD&T symbols, gear data charts, shop mathematics, trigonometry, and gear geometry.
• Experience editing G-code and M-code at machine controls and troubleshooting setups and tool wear independently.
• Ability to understand and apply work instructions and training in English; access to U.S. export-controlled information is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Gleason Shaper P500 or GP300 and Gleason Hobbing Machine H400.
• Experience with Okuma 5-axis machining centers, multi-tasking lathes, Swiss-style lathes, or automated robotic cells.
• High school diploma or GED.
