TL;DR
Test Technician III (2nd Shift), Environmental (Aerospace): Running and supporting thermal, thermal-vacuum, shock, and vibration testing for space and defense systems with an accent on test equipment operation, documentation, and hands-on laboratory work. Focus on troubleshooting test failures, interpreting procedures and engineering documentation, and improving test and design processes with engineers.

Location: North Austin, Texas; recurring hands-on work in the Environmental Test Lab.

What you will do

  • Operate thermal chambers, thermal-vacuum chambers, vibration tables, and shock tables.
  • Set up and tear down environmental test equipment for each test.
  • Document completed work for quality assurance inspection.
  • Read and interpret test procedures, schematics, drawings, specifications, manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Train new environmental test laboratory hires on equipment operation.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to troubleshoot failures and provide feedback on quality, discrepancies, and process or design improvements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental testing or a similar role.
  • Hands-on testing experience in dynamic and thermal environments.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze test results with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience or training with oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering, continuity testing, DC power supplies, torque wrenches, and related shop tools.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 10–20 pounds regularly and 50–100 pounds occasionally.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SRS shock testing and vibration testing.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-810G, SMC-S-016, or similar standards.
  • Knowledge of LabVIEW or Python.
  • Experience building test racks and rack enclosures.
  • Associate degree in metrology, instrumentation, physics, mathematics, engineering, technology, or another STEM field.
