Composites Machining Manufacturing Engineer II (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and improve machining processes for carbon fiber composite aerospace components, including trimming, routing, drilling, milling, profiling, and countersinking.
• Develop CNC strategies covering cutters, feeds and speeds, toolpaths, probing, datums, workholding, inspection, and process controls.
• Program, simulate, prove out, and optimize multi-axis CNC equipment using Mastercam and robotic machining systems using Robotmaster.
• Support KUKA robotic machining cells, including fixtures, coordinate systems, tooling, calibration, dimensional verification, and troubleshooting.
• Own machining hardware and production processes from development through full-rate production while meeting safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Collaborate with Design Engineering, machinists, technicians, programmers, and production teams on manufacturability, nonconformances, corrective actions, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant aerospace manufacturing experience with composite machining, CNC manufacturing, robotic machining, or advanced structures.
• Strong knowledge of carbon fiber composites, CNC machining principles, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, fixturing, workholding, and process development.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, CAD models, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software and production-floor troubleshooting using structured root-cause analysis.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, machining, or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience with CFRP, fiberglass, honeycomb, foam-core structures, bonded assemblies, and large composite components.
• Mastercam, Robotmaster, KUKA robotic machining, CNC probing, vacuum fixtures, and large-part workholding experience.
• Experience with metrology, CMMs, laser trackers, process capability studies, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PFMEA, SPC, and control plans.
• Master’s degree or Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing certification.
