SMT Process Engineer

Salary: $161,500–$226,000 USD per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Define and control processes in a fast-paced, high-volume SMT and PCBA assembly environment.
• Program automated assembly equipment, including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and inspection systems.
• Specify and order production tooling, including stencils.
• Develop and maintain quality plans, SOPs, process documentation, and operational training materials.
• Support SMT line operations by resolving defects, reducing scrap rates, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Provide DFM feedback to Design Engineering and support production scale-up from prototypes through NPI and high-volume builds.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of direct experience supporting SMT PCBA assembly in a highly automated environment.
• Knowledge of statistical process control and DFM for SMT and through-hole PCB assemblies.
• Clear understanding of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 requirements.

Nice to have

• Lean Six Sigma certification.
• Experience qualifying new capital equipment.
• Experience auditing suppliers of solder paste and printed wiring boards.
• J-STD-001 certified trainer qualification.
• Experience operating planar 3D or CT scanners.
