Manager, Software Engineering

Location: Madison, Wisconsin, United States; hybrid working policy

Salary: $167,800–$251,800 USD base pay range per year, with possible bonus eligibility

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, establishing clear expectations, growth opportunities, and ownership.
• Drive engineering delivery against strategic business outcomes through incremental production milestones.
• Maintain high standards for engineering quality, operational excellence, and team performance.
• Guide architecture, design, and engineering trade-offs while empowering engineers to own solutions.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Program Management, and Engineering teams across multiple time zones.
• Identify and remove technical and organizational roadblocks, risks, and dependencies while communicating capacity and resourcing needs.

Requirements

• BS or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of software development experience, including managing or leading software engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor, and empower engineers.
• Strong technical foundation in architecture, design, and engineering discussions.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities.
• Experience delivering complex software across multiple teams or systems and using Agile development practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with commerce, pricing, promotions, or transactional systems.
• Experience with backend services, APIs, internal or partner-facing tooling, or consumer-facing applications.
• Experience working in a globally distributed or matrixed organization.
