Vice President, Breakthrough Partnerships & Foundations

Location: Remote, but must live in the Bay Area, LA area, or Greater Seattle Area, USA. Regular domestic travel and some international travel are required.

Compensation: $300,000–$350,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build and manage a portfolio of transformational philanthropic prospects capable of $100M+ multi-year commitments.
• Develop donor relationships across effective altruism, technology philanthropy, family office, foundation, and advisor networks.
• Create tailored, evidence-grounded fundraising pitches focused on scalable delivery, measurable outcomes, and systems change.
• Work with program, research, philanthropy, corporate partnerships, and executive leadership teams to strengthen donor narratives and engagement.
• Contribute to Campaign 2033 strategy and represent IRC in relevant external forums, networks, and events.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the global Foundations & Trusts team while expanding institutional revenue.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in major gift fundraising, strategic relationship development, investment, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated success closing private transformational gifts or partnerships at the $50M+ level.
• Deep knowledge of philanthropic ecosystems involving AI and technology founders, emerging foundations, family offices, and philanthropic advisors.
• Strong strategic, narrative, communication, collaboration, pipeline management, and judgment skills.
• Must reside in the Bay Area, LA area, or Greater Seattle Area; remote work is available within this requirement.

Nice to have

• Network among philanthropists, technology-sector foundations, or first-generation family offices, particularly on the U.S. West Coast.
• Familiarity with effective altruism networks, major EA foundations, and evidence-based giving frameworks.
• Experience combining humanitarian or development programming with private philanthropy.
• Experience partnering with a President, CEO, or other prominent institutional leader on donor engagement.
• MBA, master’s degree, or equivalent relevant qualification.
