TL;DR
Engineering Technician (Gas Pipelines): Monitoring, diagnosing, and maintaining gas compression equipment, engines, turbines, and related plant systems with an accent on vibration diagnostics, emissions compliance, and condition-based maintenance. Focus on analyzing equipment data, conducting emissions and leak surveys, developing corrective actions, and supporting field operations across Illinois and Iowa.

Location: Onsite across Division 7, including Geneseo, Shorewood, Herscher, Hammond, and Centralia, Illinois; the position may also cover Iowa. Travel of approximately 40–50% is required.

Salary: USD $28.03–$57.31 per hour

What you will do

  • Monitor, evaluate, and diagnose rotating and reciprocating equipment, including engines, compressors, fans, pumps, and turbines.
  • Collect equipment data using engine and compressor analysis, vibration, emissions analysis, and borescope equipment.
  • Develop condition-based corrective actions and support troubleshooting, maintenance, and failure analysis for gas compression and plant systems.
  • Conduct portable emissions testing, greenhouse gas surveys, and leak detection activities to support regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain analysis and emissions records, calibrate analytical equipment, and contribute to standard practices and improvement projects.
  • Provide technical assistance and equipment operations and maintenance training to plant personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; an associate degree in a technical field is preferred, or 1–4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience repairing or diagnosing reciprocating and rotating machinery, including internal combustion engines and gas compression equipment.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring, condition-based maintenance, vibration troubleshooting, and spectral analysis; experience with Windrock or similar systems is expected.
  • Experience with portable exhaust emissions analysis, electronic databases, and analyzer software; strong skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, strong technical communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English, work outdoors in extreme conditions, climb elevated platforms, and lift up to 50 pounds.
