Optical Associate, Certified (ABO) (Optical)

Location: Reynoldsburg, Ohio, United States; onsite at Sam’s Club

Salary: $23.50–$31.50 per hour, with possible premiums of $0.35–$3.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Maintain optical merchandise presentation, inventory, displays, pricing, records, and documentation.
• Sell optical products and services, assist with purchasing decisions, verify prescriptions, and complete eyewear and contact lens orders.
• Measure pupillary distance and position of wear, adjust and repair frames, and perform final eyewear inspections, including compound prism verification.
• Educate members on eyewear and contact lens care, support contact lens insertion and removal, and troubleshoot non-adapt issues.
• Coordinate with laboratories and optometrists on job status, product updates, lens reordering, and equipment repairs.
• Schedule appointments, support optometrist services, collect payments, and process applicable insurance claims and refunds.

Requirements

• Active American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification with continuing education maintained.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Must meet applicable state requirements and obtain optician licensure within the required timeframe, generally within 18 months of hire for full-time associates.
• Must complete applicable apprenticeship requirements and maintain an NPI number where required.
• Ability to follow HIPAA, company, state, and federal requirements for records, payments, and patient services.

Nice to have

• Experience with insurance processing and electronic health records.
• Experience in health care, optical services, or retail operations.
