Software Engineer I - Data Engineering

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, or Blacksburg, Virginia; distributed, remote-first team in the United States.

Hiring range: $114,400–$137,300 USD annually, plus potential bonus and stock options.

What you will do

• Build robust, resilient pipelines for large daily data volumes from vehicle fleets and simulation environments.
• Develop and support AWS-based ingestion, ETL, storage, and Data Factory pipelines for analytics and ML training.
• Scale the data lake through distributed storage, data crawling, discovery, and acquisition of internal and external datasets.
• Implement data validation, versioning, provenance, and governance to protect data integrity.
• Collaborate with perception, planning, control, mapping, and vehicle-testing teams on product delivery.
• Participate in business-hour on-call support for deployed systems.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience writing Python code.
• Practical experience with Docker and containerization.
• Experience with Linux, Bash scripting, and deploying, troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining Linux systems.
• Commitment to test-driven development, continuous integration and delivery, and infrastructure as code.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud-based serverless solutions and AWS services such as Lambda, Batch, ECS Fargate, Glue, and Athena.
• Experience with pandas, NumPy, Databricks, or Ray for data and ML workloads.
• Knowledge of relational, NoSQL, vector, warehouse, clustered, and distributed data stores.
• Experience with data storage and acquisition for robotics or advanced driver assistance systems.
