DER Interconnection Engineer

Salary: $70,000–$156,600 per year, depending on level and experience.

What you will do

• Evaluate requests to connect distributed generation to the distribution system.
• Assess impacts on system reliability and safety and determine appropriate interconnection methods.
• Coordinate with area engineering, planning, integrated system planning, substation engineering, and protection teams.
• Lead or support projects spanning research, design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Prepare technical documentation, designs, calculations, reports, standards, bids, and proposal evaluations.
• Provide field engineering oversight, resolve technical and business matters, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited curriculum; electrical engineering is preferred, or mechanical engineering with relevant experience.
• Relevant experience varies by level: 0+ years for Entry, 2+ years for Staff, 5+ years with EIT/FE or 7+ years without it for Senior, and 9+ years with PE or 15+ years without it for Principal.
• Ability to apply engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to projects of moderate to large size and complexity.
• EIT/FE is preferred for Entry and strongly preferred for Staff; PE registration is required for the Principal level and may be required for Senior depending on business need.
• Based in St Paul, Minnesota, with work supporting the NSP interconnection process and specific geographic responsibilities in Minnesota.
