Power Systems Engineer 2 - Grid Analysis (Power Flow/PSSE/VSAT/PowerWorld): Performing steady-state power-flow studies and operational engineering analysis to support reliability of the Texas electric power grid with an accent on constraint management, regional power transfers, and system restoration planning. Focus on identifying cascading risks, evaluating generator and transmission performance, developing Black Start Plans, and implementing reliability improvements.

Location: Taylor, Texas, United States; hybrid attendance required at least two days per week, with remote work limited to a Texas residence

Salary: $87,000–$120,000 per year; level and compensation depend on overall experience

What you will do

  • Perform steady-state power-flow simulations using PSSE, VSAT, PowerWorld, and related power-system tools.
  • Evaluate Constraint Management Plans, Remedial Action Schemes, regional power transfers, and potential wide-area cascading risks.
  • Develop and maintain the hirify.global Black Start Plan, including resource selection and restoration planning.
  • Evaluate generator and transmission equipment performance against reliability requirements and forecast future needs.
  • Develop system models, monitoring and control tools, procedures, studies, and recommendations for current and future operating issues.
  • Coordinate multifunctional studies, present analyses, participate in stakeholder meetings, and mentor less experienced engineers and analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 1–2 years of progressively responsible experience as a power systems engineer or in a similar role.
  • Experience with power-flow simulations and electrical power-system analysis.
  • Programming or scripting experience, plus proficiency with power-system software, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to work on-site in Taylor, Texas at least two days per week; remote work must be performed from a Texas residence.
  • Experience in the electric utility industry is preferred; a Professional Engineer license is preferred but not required.
