Orbit Analyst (Space Defense)

Location: On-site at a government customer facility in the Colorado Springs area, United States. Up to 10% travel is required, with occasional odd or extended hours to support launch operations, mission events, and a 24/7 operational environment.

Salary: $74,900–$138,400 USD annually. Additional compensation may include bonuses, relocation benefits, and other incentives.

What you will do

• Perform orbit analysis, orbital determination, orbit product generation, and daily orbital analysis for customer space systems and mission operations.
• Generate and distribute orbital data for satellite contacts and external mission users.
• Support launch planning and execution through trajectory prediction, orbit estimation, sensor coverage analysis, telemetry collection planning, and mission support.
• Coordinate with customers, mission partners, external stakeholders, mission operators, and engineering personnel.
• Support tracking station testing, mission readiness, customer education, and maintenance of station, obscura, and Transmit Inhibit Zone data.
• Contribute to software and hardware upgrades, automation, technology insertion, process improvement, procedures, technical documentation, and training materials.

Requirements

• TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, physics, mathematics, astrodynamics, or another STEM discipline; no prior experience is required. Alternatively, a high school diploma or GED with 3 years of relevant orbital or space operations experience.
• Experience with orbital analysis, modeling, simulation, or mission-planning tools such as STK, ODTK, and MATLAB.
• Experience developing or maintaining scripts, analytical tools, data-processing applications, or automation solutions using Python, Perl, Visual Basic, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Understanding of satellite command and control, orbital mechanics, and space operations principles.
• Strong organization, documentation, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with orbital propagation, perturbations, orbit estimation, orbital maneuvers, astrodynamics, modeling, simulation, and mission analysis.
• Knowledge of systems engineering, technology assessment, lifecycle engineering, and technology trade studies.
• Knowledge of satellite command and control architectures, SCN operations, tracking stations, telemetry systems, SGLS, K-band, and X-band communications.
• Experience supporting launch operations, satellite operations, orbit product distribution, or operational space programs.
