TL;DR
Senior Applied Scientist, Geospatial (EO/IR Remote Sensing): Developing prototype geospatial imagery and intelligence products from electro-optical and infrared satellite datasets with an accent on first-principles science, pixel-level analysis, and novel mission applications. Focus on validating early-stage concepts, translating customer needs into derived data solutions, and solving ambiguous problems across remote sensing, optical systems, and geospatial product development.

Location: Remote from an approved location; access to export-controlled information requires U.S. person status, export authorization eligibility, or a reasonable likelihood of obtaining authorization

Salary: $123,000–$176,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

Company

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates LEO satellite constellations that deliver mission-critical Earth intelligence and remote sensing data.

What you will do

  • Formulate scientific hypotheses and novel applications for electro-optical and infrared geospatial imagery.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, literature reviews, and trade studies for early-stage mission and data concepts.
  • Analyze pixel-level geospatial and spectral datasets to extract insights and validate mission concepts.
  • Develop prototype imagery and sample intelligence products demonstrating satellite system capabilities.
  • Translate customer operational needs into technical requirements and derived data solutions.
  • Collaborate with product management, business development, engineering, data engineering, satellite operations, and mission architecture teams.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in physics, remote sensing, Earth science, computer science, engineering, or a related technical or scientific field.

  • Strong knowledge of geospatial imagery analysis, spectral science, optical systems, and physics-based remote sensing.
  • Experience with infrared, multispectral, hyperspectral, or similar remote sensing methods.
  • Programming proficiency in Python, MATLAB, Julia, or comparable tools for advanced image processing and geospatial analysis.
  • Active security clearance or willingness to obtain one; eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled information is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting intelligence community or Department of War missions and GEOINT end-users.
  • Familiarity with early-stage business development and customer discovery.
  • Experience applying experimental AI/ML frameworks to remote sensing datasets.
  • Familiarity with space systems development and satellite remote sensing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with equity compensation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan, disability insurance, and life insurance.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation for new employees, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
