Staff Advanced Concepts Optimization Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Jose, California, United States

Base salary: $160,000–$200,000 for the Staff level. Senior and Senior Staff ranges are $130,000–$160,000 and $200,000–$240,000 respectively.

What you will do

• Develop the multidisciplinary optimization engine, workflows, and high-performance computing resources for aircraft concept development.
• Translate business goals and use cases into optimization objectives and constraints.
• Deploy optimization workflows to create optimal electric aircraft designs.
• Communicate technical findings to stakeholders and support executive decision-making.
• Work with systems engineers to transform designs into high-level requirements and support implementation across the engineering organization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience for the Staff level, with architectural ownership and technical leadership experience.
• Experience with aircraft concept design, eVTOL mission profiles, vehicle performance, or advanced air mobility simulations.
• Experience with physics-based modeling, multidisciplinary optimization, numerical methods, uncertainty quantification, or sensitivity analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and scientific or optimization packages such as NumPy, SciPy, OpenMDAO, JAX, CasADi, SMT, or PyTorch.
• Ability to deploy parallelized simulation and optimization workflows on cloud infrastructure and manage large datasets.

Nice to have

• Experience with CFD, FEA, reduced-order modeling, surrogate modeling, neural networks, or Gaussian Processes.
• Experience with automatic differentiation, adjoint methods, direct collocation, trajectory optimization, or evolutionary algorithms.
• Experience modeling electric powertrains, aircraft control algorithms, aerospace cost estimation relationships, or coupled multiphysics systems.
