Complex Claims Specialist-MPL (Miscellaneous Professional Liability)

Location: Primarily hybrid, with in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates near an office. Qualified remote candidates may also be considered. The role can be based in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, or West Hartford.

Salary: $125,000–$155,000, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Adjust and resolve complex mid- to high-severity Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims through all stages of litigation.
• Draft complex coverage letters, including reservation-of-rights and denial letters.
• Review claim documentation and legal filings, and develop coverage and litigation strategies.
• Lead defense strategy and collaborate with external counsel, experts, underwriting, insureds, and brokers.
• Investigate, negotiate, and use mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution methods to achieve positive claim outcomes.
• Identify emerging exposures and suspected fraud, maintain compliant claim files, and mentor other claims examiners.

Requirements

• 6+ years of Professional Liability and/or Specialty or Financial Lines claims handling experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school may supplement claims experience, and a JD is optimal.
• Advanced knowledge of coverage in the relevant specialty and of litigation processes, with strong negotiation and analytical skills.
• Proven ability to manage complex claims with minimal supervision and lead litigation outcomes.
• Experience mentoring and training claims examiners, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Adjuster licensing is required within 90 days of employment.
