TL;DR
Quality Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing): Driving built-in quality in transmission manufacturing operations, supporting current production and new or updated product launches with an accent on defect prevention, structured problem solving, and supplier quality. Focus on analyzing quality metrics, implementing corrective actions, supporting PPAP and APQP activities, and improving quality performance in complex manufacturing processes.

Location: Toledo, Ohio, United States; full-time onsite attendance required at Toledo Transmission. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits. Immigration-related sponsorship is not available now or in the future.

What you will do

  • Provide daily quality support for production, respond to quality concerns, and implement documented corrective actions.
  • Monitor quality metrics such as PPM/IPPM, FTQ, CPV, and customer feedback to identify trends and verify improvement actions.
  • Facilitate 5-Why, fishbone, PPS, and 8D problem-solving activities, including containment and root-cause analysis.
  • Partner with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, suppliers, and SQE on built-in quality, error-proofing, audits, and incoming material issues.
  • Support product launches and changes through PPAP, run-at-rate activities, trials, control plans, and reaction plans.
  • Investigate customer, warranty, and field issues while maintaining quality records in accordance with QMS and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in quality, manufacturing, or process engineering in an industrial or automotive environment.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving methods and corrective action implementation.
  • Working knowledge of control plans, FMEA, MSA, SPC, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
  • Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work onsite at Toledo Transmission and respond to quality issues in alignment with plant needs.

Nice to have

  • Experience with transmission, powertrain, complex assemblies, or related manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with launch, PPAP, APQP, and change management.
  • Experience with built-in quality systems, layered process audits, and error-proofing design.
  • Familiarity with customer-specific quality requirements and OEM expectations.
  • Proficiency with Minitab, Power BI, or similar quality and data analysis tools.
