TL;DR
Piping Engineering Trainee (High Pressure Metallurgy) (Mechanical Engineering/Metallurgy): Supporting the design of high-pressure and high-temperature autoclave technology and piping systems for mining and metals projects with an accent on equipment sizing, hydraulic modeling, P&IDs, and technical specifications. Focus on evaluating process alternatives, participating in hazard reviews, performing piping stress analysis, and coordinating technical inputs across project teams and sites.

Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; office-based with travel to project sites, including remote sites, when required.

Salary: CAD 81,000–83,000 per year, plus potential performance-based incentives and benefits.

What you will do

  • Support studies and projects involving high-pressure and high-temperature autoclave technology for copper, gold, silver, nickel, alumina, and other metals.
  • Prepare design calculations, equipment and piping documentation, technical specifications, data sheets, reports, and presentations.
  • Model piping systems using AFT Fathom, Impulse, and Arrow for incompressible, viscous, and compressible fluids.
  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Drawings and contribute to plant layouts, equipment sizing, and equipment design reviews.
  • Participate in process hazard reviews, including HAZID and HAZOP, as well as capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Coordinate technical deliverables with project teams, designers, technicians, clients, vendors, contractors, and field personnel.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited university; graduating in 2026 or recently graduated.
  • Understanding of engineering and business fundamentals, with strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, take on new challenges, and work collaboratively.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites, including remote sites.
  • Academic or work experience with mechanical and piping equipment design is beneficial, including pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, and process equipment.
  • Previous co-op or summer experience within a mechanical engineering team is an asset.

Nice to have

  • Experience with metallurgical process equipment and piping.
  • Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel, piping, or heat exchanger design.
  • Active extracurricular or volunteer involvement during university or in the community.
