Data Center Technician I

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States. The role requires onsite data center presence, being within one hour of the facility for on-call duties, occasional 24x7 onsite visits, and availability for weekend, evening, and overnight shifts.

Salary: $62,000–$72,000 per year.

What you will do

• Deploy, rack, test, activate, maintain, troubleshoot, and replace servers, hard drives, and other infrastructure components.
• Manage onsite inventories, structured cabling, spare parts, RMAs, and equipment shipping and receiving.
• Execute server installations, migrations, upgrades, and full new-system implementations through production.
• Respond to data center infrastructure incidents and Jira tickets, escalating hardware, power, and network issues as needed.
• Work with IT, NetEng, NOC, and SRE teams to test and validate infrastructure functionality.
• Improve data center documentation, operational practices, automation, and process efficiency.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in data center or server infrastructure roles.
• Hands-on knowledge of server hardware and deployments.
• Proficiency with structured cabling, fiber optics, and patch panel management.
• Experience with Linux operating systems and basic scripting.
• Strong communication, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Reston and participate in on-call coverage, including possible weekend, evening, overnight, and 24x7 response shifts.
