TL;DR
Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer (Battery Systems): Leading the mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and production ramp of battery packs for electric marine vessels with an accent on structural analysis, thermal management, high-voltage safety, and manufacturability. Focus on designing pack architectures for tight hull envelopes, validating thermal and structural performance under marine loads, and supporting sea trials and certification.

Location: Torrance, California; full-time, on-site at the Los Angeles headquarters

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 annually, plus equity grants and semi-annual performance bonuses.

Company

hirify.global is electrifying the marine industry by developing electric powertrains, software, vessel designs, and commercial marine applications.

What you will do

  • Lead battery pack mechanical design across product lines, from architecture through detailed structures, enclosures, busbars, and electronics packaging.
  • Perform structural analysis using FEA, hand calculations, and numerical modeling for vibration, shock, and slamming loads.
  • Design and validate thermal management systems, including cold plates, coolant routing, and heat rejection.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering on cell selection, interconnects, high-voltage isolation, creepage and clearance, BMS, and sensor integration.
  • Build and test prototypes, execute thermal, structural, and abuse validation, and drive design iterations.
  • Support sea trials, certification, supplier interaction, and production ramp.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 3+ years designing battery packs or modules from concept through production.
  • Strong structural and thermal engineering fundamentals with practical experience in FEA, hand calculations, and numerical modeling.
  • Working knowledge of high-voltage battery systems, cell behavior, electrical isolation, thermal runaway, and pack safety.
  • Proficiency with a major CAD package such as NX, including large assemblies and detailed part design.
  • Experience with engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing methods, hardware troubleshooting, and production environments.
  • Comfort working on boats in the field and collecting test data.

Nice to have

  • Cell-to-pack or module-to-pack experience in automotive, aerospace, or defense.
  • Knowledge of battery safety and certification standards such as UL 2580, UN 38.3, ISO 6469, or ABYC E-13.
  • Fluid system design experience, including pump and heat exchanger sizing and hose or pipe routing.
  • Marine vessel experience, including Coast Guard and ABS regulations.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink, sheet metal manufacturing, CNC machining, or shop tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Ownership, empathy, humility, pragmatism, and inclusion are core values.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits are 99% employer-paid.
  • Fourteen weeks of fully paid parental leave, competitive PTO, life insurance, disability insurance, and traditional and Roth 401(k) access.
  • $500 annual water fund, $500 annual professional development reimbursement, monthly AI stipend, and safety equipment reimbursement.
  • Captain training, access to Arc boats, daily onsite lunches, snacks, coffee, and relocation assistance depending on role eligibility.

Hiring process

  • Values alignment and relevant experience are discussed during the interview process.
