Staff Software Engineer (Video Streaming)

Location: Boston, MA, United States; hybrid work with two core office days per week

Salary: $146,000–$195,000 annual base pay, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and own cloud-based backend systems for home security camera streaming and recording.
• Design and implement reliable, flexible solutions for large-scale video streaming problems.
• Write production code, review code, mentor engineers, and drive technical decisions.
• Optimize performance, fix bugs, add features, improve usability, and automate operational work.
• Document systems for long-term maintainability and respond as an on-call first responder.

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience, including end-to-end ownership of a production backend architecture.
• 2+ years designing, building, or operating real-time or low-latency video streaming services.
• Experience with WebRTC, GStreamer, ffmpeg, or libav, and familiarity with HLS/DASH, fMP4, CMAF, codecs, and transport protocols.
• Extensive experience with cloud-based microservices, distributed systems, and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficiency in at least one major programming language, such as Go, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
• Ability to mentor engineers, make technical decisions, solve complex problems, and work with Agile Scrum.

• Experience with IoT or smart home video streaming applications.
