Project Engineer - Automation

Location: Canada — Burnaby, Brossard, Calgary, or Markham. The role includes domestic and international travel of at least 25%.

What you will do

• Plan, design, develop, test, and commission automation projects for utilities, industrial plants, universities, and renewable energy systems.
• Configure intelligent electronic devices, real-time controllers, RTUs, HMI systems, servers, workstations, and upstream SCADA interfaces.
• Design control logic schemes, communication networks, and custom automation functions for fault location, isolation, and restoration.
• Lead project engineering activities from design through commissioning, defining deliverables, schedules, and execution plans.
• Work with project managers, technical leads, engineers, customers, and Salesforce on application planning and technical recommendations.
• Review and certify deliverables, prepare testing and commissioning procedures, and produce service reports.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent work history.
• Experience designing control logic schemes and network configurations.
• Ability to analyze electrical one-line drawings, DC/AC schematics, and bills of materials.
• Experience with industry-standard communication protocols, including IEC-61850, DNP, and Modbus.
• Experience with server/client SCADA applications and HMI application design or development suites.
• Ability to own schedules, research solutions independently, communicate professionally with customers and colleagues, and travel at least 25% domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

• Experience with phase I/O-style project management and SEL product configurations.
• Experience with IEC-61131 programming, Python, IT/OT network design, or Wireshark troubleshooting.
• Substation safety training.
