Application Engineer - Automation

Location: Burnaby or Calgary, Canada; travel to customer sites typically 25–30%

What you will do

• Act as the technical liaison between customers and hirify.global engineering, manufacturing, and support teams.
• Provide technical expertise on protection, automation, and communications solutions during pre-sales and post-sales engagements.
• Support system design, device hirify.globalection, solution architecture, application design, settings development, configuration, testing, and commissioning.
• Manage customer technical requirements from project initiation through commissioning and ongoing support.
• Build relationships with customer engineering and operations teams and identify new opportunities.
• Deliver technical presentations, training, demonstrations, and industry-event participation both on-site and virtually.

Requirements

• Experience combining customer engagement with engineering, ideally in technical sales or application engineering.
• Hands-on experience with power systems, protection relays, automation systems, or industrial control systems.
• Understanding of protection schemes, SCADA, DNP3, IEC 61850, communications, and substation automation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong business acumen, communication, problem-solving, and customer-facing skills in high-pressure field environments.
• Ability to write and speak English coherently and travel to customer sites as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience commissioning, testing, or configuring protective relays and control systems.
• Familiarity with industrial networking, cybersecurity principles, IEEE and IEC standards, and utility, industrial, or renewable energy markets.
• Experience with hirify.global products, hirify.global software, hirify.global RTAC, automation platforms, substation commissioning, protection coordination, or system studies.
