TL;DR
Senior Financial Analyst - Investment Operations and Finance (Investment Portfolio Analysis): Delivering financial analytics and reporting for $100+ billion insurance investment portfolios with an accent on portfolio performance, risk analysis, investment income forecasting, and GAAP and STAT reporting. Focus on building investment strategy models, analyzing capital and liquidity impacts, reconciling transaction and valuation data, and preparing governance materials for senior leaders and Board meetings.

Location: St. Paul, Minnesota, United States

Annual base salary: $73,900–$122,000, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

  • Analyze invested asset portfolios across fixed income, equities, alternatives, and cash, including asset allocation, yield, total return, and risk metrics.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly investment results, dashboards, variance analyses, and commentary for Investments and Finance leaders.
  • Support forecasting and planning for investment income, realized gains and losses, and P&L and balance sheet impacts.
  • Build and maintain models for investment strategies, capital deployment, reinvestment, duration, liquidity, and portfolio repositioning scenarios.
  • Partner with Investment Operations, Accounting, Portfolio Managers, Treasury, Corporate Finance, Technology, and Data teams to reconcile variances, resolve data issues, and improve reporting processes.
  • Support GAAP and STAT reporting, internal controls, SOX and audit requirements, and materials for Management Committee and Board meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of relevant finance, financial planning, accounting, or related experience; 3–5 years is preferred for the role.
  • Strong financial modeling and quantitative analysis skills, including Excel or similar tools.
  • Ability to interpret large datasets, identify trends, and communicate clear business insights.
  • Knowledge of investment concepts including duration, yield curves, risk and return, capital structure, and discounted cash flow.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and financial reporting or investment tools such as Essbase, Hyperion, COGNOS, or Bloomberg.

Nice to have

  • Experience in insurance, asset management, banking, or another financial services environment.
  • Familiarity with insurance invested assets, balance sheets, fixed income securities, equities, private placements, private credit, or alternatives.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP or statutory investment accounting.
  • Progress toward or interest in CFA, CPA, or FRM designations.
