Principal Electrical Engineer (Layout/EDA Tool Automation)

Location: Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, United States; on-site. Candidates must be U.S. Persons. Due to national security requirements, candidates must not be nationals of China or Russia unless also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $180,000–$225,000 annually, including bonus target.

What you will do

• Define and execute the roadmap for layout automation and AI-enabled design workflows across multiple programs.
• Identify automation opportunities across layout, verification, tape-out, and release processes.
• Create software tools, automation frameworks, AI-assisted workflows, data pipelines, and performance dashboards.
• Integrate generative AI, machine learning, large language models, and intelligent workflow technologies where measurable productivity gains are possible.
• Partner with design, layout, CAD, software, R&D, and EDA vendor teams to deploy reusable solutions and improve engineering throughput.
• Lead technical initiatives, drive tool adoption through training and coaching, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of experience in IC, MEMS, photonics, advanced packaging, or physical design and layout environments.
• At least a bachelor's degree.
• U.S. Person status required: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status.
• Experience with scripting or software development, such as Python, SKILL, Tcl, or C++.
• Experience with layout automation, verification, DRC/LVS closure, PDK integration, or tape-out preparation.
• Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, technical influence, and organizational change skills.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Allegro, Synopsys, Siemens EDA, KLayout, or comparable platforms.
• Experience applying AI, machine learning, large language models, agentic systems, or generative technologies in engineering.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, modern software development, engineering metrics, dashboards, and ROI-driven automation.
