Principal Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Simi Valley, California, United States; office environment required

Salary: $147,000–$224,250 per year

What you will do

• Develop software for vision-based navigation, autonomy, cooperative behaviors, and mission systems.
• Drive technical direction and architectural decisions across the Kinesis robotic control ecosystem.
• Design, implement, and integrate systems in C++ and Kotlin for Android, Linux, and Windows.
• Design SDK interfaces and APIs for internal and third-party integration with hirify.global systems.
• Lead technical work for customer programs and collaborate across software development teams.
• Conduct hands-on robot field testing and occasionally travel for customer or testing events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience; 12+ years of relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Strong modern C++ skills, maintainable software architecture, modular system design, and experience with CMake or similar build systems.
• Experience developing software for mechatronic or hardware-integrated systems, with knowledge of networking topologies, protocols, and safety-critical concepts such as determinism and real-time systems.
• Experience evaluating product design tradeoffs, translating them into system requirements, and communicating with technical and non-technical customers.
• Experience tasking and mentoring small engineering teams; ability to use AI tooling to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee/refugee, or an individual approved for an export license; ITAR/EAR compliance is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with UAS, drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles, or embedded systems.
• Advanced degree, CI/CD pipelines, Android/Linux application development, Docker, or FastDDS, gRPC, and MQTT.
• Experience designing and delivering APIs and SDKs to third-party developers.
