TL;DR
Staff Engineer, Embedded Firmware (C/C++/RTOS): Developing embedded avionics software and firmware for V-BAT unmanned aerial vehicles with an accent on real-time operating systems, hardware bring-up, and autonomous robotic systems. Focus on integrating sensors and subsystems, converting bare-metal software to RTOS-based systems, and building CI/CD and hardware-in-the-loop testing capabilities.

What you will do

  • Develop high-performance, reliable, and safety-critical C/C++ firmware for V-BAT aircraft.
  • Build and maintain software architectures, requirements, designs, and verification processes.
  • Integrate RTOS platforms, custom system-on-modules, avionics sensors, payloads, and aircraft subsystems.
  • Convert legacy bare-metal software to RTOS-based systems and develop firmware for robotic vehicles in flight.
  • Create CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, virtualized hardware, hardware-in-the-loop simulations, and deployment tools.
  • Coordinate software integration across firmware, test and verification, autonomy AI, ground control stations, and production teams.

Requirements

  • Strong software development experience in C/C++ and bare-metal embedded firmware development.
  • Experience with Linux kernel or RTOS development, device trees, and bringing up new hardware.
  • Familiarity with thread-safe, multithreaded programming.
  • Experience owning development processes and features, shipping products, and delivering solutions in fast-paced environments.
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in systems engineering, software engineering, computer science, or another STEM discipline.
  • Ability to work on-site in Dallas, Texas.

Nice to have

  • Experience with autonomous robotic systems and motor control.
  • Experience in startup or R&D environments.
  • Adaptability and the ability to innovate under pressure.
