TL;DR
Staff Flight Software Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing flight software, mission data systems, and mission operations systems for satellites and other space platforms with an accent on embedded software, hardware integration, testing, and high-reliability qualification. Focus on architecting multi-level software stacks, validating mission systems, supporting in-orbit operations, and mentoring engineers.

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $158,000–$189,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design and implement software for integrated mission systems, including satellites, ground stations, and mission operations centers.
  • Architect, develop, code, test, debug, and document space system software across the development lifecycle.
  • Develop and integrate low-level and high-level software, including microcontroller software, drivers, board support packages, applications, and data-management interfaces.
  • Review code and system designs, analyze efficiency and stability, and support software quality assurance and I/O performance optimization.
  • Integrate and validate product designs, assess third-party and open-source software, and support customers after production and during in-orbit operations.
  • Present engineering design reviews, contribute to proposals, interface with hardware engineers, and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of software development experience with a bachelor’s degree or 7 years with a master’s degree.
  • Experience developing multiple flight software systems and troubleshooting software and hardware systems.
  • Hands-on programming experience in C or C++ and experience integrating open-source software into integrated systems.
  • Strong understanding of multithreaded applications, resource management, configuration management, defect tracking, and peer review.
  • U.S. export-control eligibility and on-site work in Westminster, Colorado are required.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace product, satellite operations, or mission data systems experience, including COSMOS.
  • Experience with NASA’s cFS flight software framework, ARM processors, and fully featured microcontrollers.
  • Experience reading electronics schematics and component data sheets.
  • Experience designing and developing a Software Development Kit.
