Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Barcelona, Spain — hybrid work with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote

Salary: €50,000–€60,000 gross per year, depending on experience and seniority

What you will do

• Lead backend development across multiple live products and own the engineering roadmap for new features.
• Define and evolve the technology stack and lead major architecture and technology decisions.
• Manage the existing backend engineer while remaining hands-on with implementation and complex technical work.
• Build new technical solutions for products on the roadmap and establish a unified engineering function.
• Develop AI-powered workflow automation for client products and identify opportunities to speed up delivery.
• Work directly with product stakeholders and the CEO to translate business needs into technical roadmaps and features.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience across multiple products, including at least 1 year in a management capacity.
• Experience with Kotlin, Python, React, LangGraph, AWS, and Snowflake, or the ability to make informed decisions about the future stack.
• Strong ownership of technology stack and architecture decisions.
• Experience building engineering processes and team structures from the ground up.
• Genuine interest in applying AI and automation directly to product development.
• Professional fluency in English and Spanish is required.
