Power Plant Technician A

Location: Onsite in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; rotating shift schedule.

Salary: $56.07–$67.42 per hour

What you will do

• Operate, monitor, and maintain power plant equipment, auxiliaries, boilers, turbines, and related systems.
• Respond to normal and abnormal operating conditions and keep equipment within acceptable parameters.
• Take readings, maintain operating logs, document equipment problems, and record maintenance actions.
• Perform water chemistry analysis, adjust chemical feeds, and operate and regenerate water treatment equipment.
• Inspect equipment, operate valves and circuit breakers up to 480 volts, and perform mechanical and electrical isolation.
• Follow safety, environmental, regulatory, and lockout/tagout procedures while supporting plant operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License, maintained throughout employment.
• At least 3 years of experience operating gas turbines, high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, and heat recovery steam generators.
• Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work indoors and outdoors, including lifting up to 50 pounds and maneuvering up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, temperature extremes, high-noise environments, and around high-pressure steam and rotating equipment.
• Must qualify to wear a respirator and pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug screening.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the relationship between plant operations and energy markets.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to read and interpret P&IDs.
• Good safety record.
