Sr. Director, Software Engineering, Digital for Research & CMC Development

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; 70% in-office and 30% flexible work model.

Salary: $210,900–$379,200 per year, with potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Lead the software engineering organization supporting Research and CMC Development.
• Establish engineering standards, operating rhythms, portfolio management practices, and accountability frameworks.
• Develop engineering leaders and senior technical contributors while strengthening career progression and organizational performance.
• Oversee full-stack application and integration engineering across scientific systems, SaaS platforms, enterprise platforms, and data products.
• Guide reusable APIs, services, integration patterns, cloud architecture, reliability, observability, security, and scalability.
• Partner with Product Management, Data Engineering, DevOps, Cybersecurity, and Research and CMC Development stakeholders to translate scientific needs into digital solutions.

Requirements

• 15+ years of progressive software engineering and technology experience, including 10+ years of engineering leadership.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience with production software, modern architecture, cloud-native engineering, full-stack development, APIs, distributed systems, and enterprise integrations.
• 5+ years of modern cloud architecture and cloud-native engineering, including evaluation of architectural approaches and tradeoffs.
• 10+ years of leadership experience in biotechnology or biopharmaceutical organizations supporting Research, CMC Development, Technical Development, Process Development, or related R&D functions.
• Demonstrated experience scaling software engineering organizations and developing engineering leaders and senior technical talent.
• Ability to work within hirify.global’s 70/30 in-office model in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Nice to have

• Experience with ELN, LIMS, SDMS, laboratory automation, scientific data platforms, modeling, or analytical systems.
• Experience integrating commercial scientific SaaS platforms in biotechnology or biopharmaceutical environments.
• Experience applying AI-enabled engineering tools and practices to improve productivity, quality, and scalability.
