TL;DR
Senior Spacecraft Mission Software Engineer (Python/spacecraft mission software): Building reliable ground segment services, mission control interfaces, simulation tools, and deployment infrastructure for spacecraft operations with an accent on telemetry, commanding, real-time data acquisition, and safety-critical reliability. Focus on designing deterministic services, automating flight-software testing, and deploying mission software across lab, test-range, and air-gapped environments.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $169,067–$216,031 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain high-reliability ground segment services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and spacecraft commanding.
  • Build operator-grade mission control interfaces and dashboards for integration, testing, and on-orbit operations.
  • Create flight-software simulations, device emulators, and scenario-based automated tests for avionics, GNC, and mission operations.
  • Design and productionize mission platform tooling, including CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, infrastructure-as-code, service templates, test harnesses, and observability.
  • Implement deployment patterns, safe rollout and rollback strategies, and air-gapped or limited-connectivity deployments across labs, test stands, and mission networks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
  • 5+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
  • Strong Python development skills and solid systems fundamentals, including concurrency, networking, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience building real-time data acquisition, low-latency messaging, scaling, and distribution services with time-series and relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, dependency and build systems, infrastructure-as-code, logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Must work on-site in El Segundo and be a U.S. person authorized to access export-controlled technology; E-Verify participation applies.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in C++, Ansible, and/or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with DAQ, closed-loop control, and lab or test-control environments.
  • Experience integrating CI, testing, simulation, or data tools with flight-software teams.
  • Knowledge of safety-critical requirements, testing, certification artifacts, ground-system standards, and mission-network security.
  • Experience building mission-grade UIs with structured command workflows, alarming, and situational awareness.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible PTO and 12 paid holidays.
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance with FSA and employer-matched HSA options.
  • Parental leave, family-building support, wellness reimbursement, and One Medical memberships.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% immediately vested employer match and incentive equity.
  • Relocation support may be available for new hires, with meals, team events, and EV charging provided on-site.
