Process Safety Management Engineer (Life Sciences Manufacturing)

Location: On-site in Muskegon, Michigan, United States; up to 25% overnight travel within the United States and internationally.

What you will do

• Support the multiyear construction, startup, and ongoing operation of a life sciences manufacturing facility.
• Develop, maintain, and execute programs for compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management and the EPA Risk Management Program.
• Build and manage the facility Process Hazard Analysis schedule, including planning, event facilitation, and resource coordination.
• Evaluate site procedures for compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management requirements.
• Coach and lead teams during PSM-related events using engagement and performance improvement principles.
• Apply hirify.global Business System continuous improvement tools to EHS improvement and risk mitigation, collaborating with the global EHS team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to interpret Process Safety Information, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, process chemistry, process kinetics, and related technical data.
• 7+ years of Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plan experience in highly hazardous manufacturing environments.
• Experience influencing organizational change, management systems, behaviors, and decision-making through technical leadership without direct supervisory authority.
• Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, including batch or continuous-process HAZOP, What-If, Checklist methodology, PHA software, and LOPA.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.

Nice to have

• Certified PHA Practitioner or similar accredited PHA facilitator qualification.
• Certified LOPA Practitioner or similar accredited LOPA facilitator qualification.
• Knowledge of Functional Safety for Safety Instrumented Systems, including IEC 61511.
