Senior Software Engineer (AdTech)

What you will do

• Own the Java codebase powering the Exchange, executing billions of operations daily under sub-100-millisecond latency budgets.
• Design and evolve high-throughput services for bidding logic, auction mechanics, traffic shaping, and creative and image processing.
• Operate production systems across multiple AWS regions and data centers with a focus on reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.
• Instrument services with metrics, traces, and alerts while taking end-to-end ownership of their operational health.
• Evaluate AI/ML optimizations and agentic capabilities for bidding and traffic decisions and bring promising solutions into production.
• Collaborate across the New York City and Zurich engineering teams and mentor engineers on Java, distributed systems, and responsible AI tooling.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on production backend services at scale.
• Demonstrated experience building high-performance APIs and services in Java.
• Experience with large-scale, network-heavy systems handling billions of HTTP requests per day under strict latency requirements.
• Familiarity with in-memory key-value stores such as Memcache or Redis and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, concurrency, caching, backpressure, fault tolerance, observability, multi-region cloud operations, and modern AI coding assistants.

Nice to have

• Experience with Netty, event-driven JVM frameworks, JVM performance tuning, or specialized low-latency key-value stores.
• Experience with Apache Spark, Snowflake, or Redpanda.
• Background in ad tech, RTB, programmatic advertising, OpenRTB, or VAST.
• Experience integrating ML models, LLMs, agents, retrieval pipelines, computer vision, or image-processing systems into production.
• Experience leading cross-team or cross-region technical initiatives and architectural decisions.
