Senior Backend Engineer / Technical Lead (AI)

Location: Lausanne, Switzerland; hybrid work model balancing office and remote work. A relocation package is available for people coming from another country.

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale distributed backend systems serving millions of users.
• Own feature delivery from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and production readiness.
• Architect low-latency APIs and backend services for AI-driven conversational systems in hirify.global Assist.
• Develop cloud-native Java services and infrastructure using AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes or ECS.
• Build reliable services for large-scale data processing, real-time interactions, and integrations across multiple systems.
• Lead technical execution, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and align product and cross-functional stakeholders on technical strategy and trade-offs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in modern Java 17+ and experience designing high-throughput systems for millions of users or real-time services.
• Experience with AWS or similar cloud-native architectures, Docker, and Kubernetes or ECS.
• Experience with distributed data systems such as Redis and Apache Kafka.
• Knowledge of high availability, failover, resiliency, logging, monitoring, tracing, and metrics.
• Strong English communication skills are required, including the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating LLMs, including prompting, evaluation, and observability.
• Knowledge of Micronaut or Spring, plus Python experience.
• Experience with performance tuning, GitOps, CI/CD, or infrastructure as code.
