Systems Engineering Technical Leader (BESS)

Location: China - Remote; based in Shanghai with up to 25% travel and close collaboration with China-based lab teams.

What you will do

• Define system testing infrastructure, high-level test plans, detailed test cases, procedures, and pass/fail criteria for large-scale BESS products.
• Lead prototype system integration, lab testing, safety certification support, and system-level validation.
• Own integration strategies across electrical, mechanical, controls, communications, embedded, software, and cloud interfaces.
• Define verification and validation strategies and oversee hardware testing, prototype validation, FAT/SAT protocols, and qualification activities.
• Document defects, failures, and lessons learned in Jira and use findings to improve product requirements, architecture, design, and testing processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and support recruiting, interviews, third-party laboratory discussions, and manufacturing partner collaboration in China.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, product development, or system architecture within energy or power systems.
• Extensive experience with utility-scale BESS, power conversion systems, microgrids, or grid integration.
• Strong knowledge of requirements development, functional decomposition, interface management, system architecture, and verification and validation.
• Experience with international safety and performance standards, including UL 9540, UL 9540A, IEC 62933, and NFPA 855.
• Fluency in Mandarin and English is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with third-party certification bodies, external test laboratories, or contract manufacturing partners.
• Experience with Jira, requirements management tools, or model-based systems engineering.
